Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun

My grandfather recently gave me a Red Ryder BB Gun of his from when he was my age. It Is in incredible condition. I have been trying to find out how valuable it is for months. I finally found some info on it a few days ago from the popular mechanics website. It is one of the original model 111-40 carbines ever made between 1940 and 1942. I know this because of the copper banded barrel and forearm. I also read that some collectors are paying upwards of $1200.00 for one in mint condition. Is this true? Another question I have is where do I find a collector interested in buying one? If you can offer me any information, I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

    B.B. guns and their values are not an area of expertise of mine, but I am not surprised that there is someone somewhere that will pay that kind of money for an early specimen. As for finding a buyer at that price--you could offer it on this forum's auction with a reserve price at what you are willing to accept. That way, if no one meets your price you will not lose it to a high bidder at $89.95. You could also contact one of the upper scale auction houses, or advertise it for sale in the "Gun List" and "Shotgun News" classified ads. Good luck.

    Why would you want to sell it? You would never be able to replace it.
    The only thing I have that ever belonged to my Grandfather is an old single shot .410. And I would never think of selling it.

    MATTSKER: Have seen these BB guns of the same vintage at several auctions and shows that were being sold for $115 to $450. Yours may command a higher price depending on it's condition and rarity and how bad the person or bidder wants to buy it. Personally, I would not sell the same vintage BB gun given to me by my father (a gift from his dad) even if offered a million bucks. Well, maybe for a million bucks but you get my point.

    I also have a Red Ryder No.111 Model 40. It works fine but is far from excellent. I had always understood that the rifle was made between 1936 and 1938 . Even had the scope that sold as an extra.

    A friend of mine and I recently attended a small gun show in PA. He purchased a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun in it's original box and a box of 350 BB's for $55.00. The guy that was selling them had three more on hand for about the same price. The show was in Mt Bethel, PA. about three weeks ago.

    Charlie: I would guess that the Red Ryder's he had for sale were the latest versions with plastic stocks, not the originals.

    p0838, I'm not an expert on BB guns, or much else for that matter, lol. The box looked very old and it did have a wooden stock, not plastic.
