i've been shooting hipower rifle competition for years, the 308 (7.62 nato) has proven itself to be the more accurate of the two, not necessarlly by me, but by the testing poeple & shooters all over the world, has something to do with the case shape, etc, etc, etc, you can read any sniper book, they all use 308's (US)

For paper punching and other bench work, I think .308 would be the choice. For hunting the edge goes to the 06.

At 300 yards and punching holes in paper they are equal. If you hand load and you want more range with a little more knock down power the edge goes to the 30 06. Other than that I like the .308. My 2 cents

What about SemiAuto vs Bolt actions what is the best rifle to get a 700 or a 700PSS or a M1A..

I would like to weigh bullseyes over Fun & blasting.

I use to shoot my AR at this range...

for accuracy the 700pss, for an accurate battle rifle, the M1A. If you are interested in how tight you can group, get the PSS.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

At 300 yards both are about equal in accuracy. Since the 30-06 is about 200 fps faster than the .308, it gets a nod at over 300 because of both a flatter trajectory and less wind effect. Over 500 there is no comparrison, the 30-06, with its ability to shoot much heavier bullets than the .308 is the clear winner.

For accuracy, get the 700. The 700PSS is not much more than a high-priced 700 dreamed up by marketing.
