I am asking for advise on weather to pick up a Franchi SPAS or a Benelli M3. I am interested in the pro's and con's as far as operation (reliability, cyclic rate, ect.) and also potential collecters value? Which would the expersts pick, M3 or SPAS???,

Thanx for your time,
Justin

I personally like the Benelli, they have the fastest cycle rate over any shotgun from what I hear, but as far as shooting my Black Eagle is one of my fav's. I like the M4 as far as a tactical type shotgun, its retracable stock is nice, the only shotgun I've ever seen with the telescoping type stock. I think that the SPAS is more of a collectors item, though I know one officer who has one. If you just want a nice semi-auto tactical shotgun, and have the money to spend in that price range, you may look into scattergun technologies aka Wilson Combat shotguns, they look extremely nice.

I have the SPAS. It's a nice gun but like the one guy said, somewhat more of a collector item. Also, the function of loading and such is kind of strange, but it is a nice weapon. If you do buy one be sure you get one with the push button safety. Do not get one with the lever safety as they have been recalled. Best thing to do is check out this site before buying: http://spas12.com/

The other thing you might want to think about is the availability of spare parts. My guess is that the M3 parts would be easier to get if you need them.

Now I've never shot the M3 but I have shot the M1 and it was very nice. If an M3 came along at the right price though, I'd probably add it to my collection.

If I were going to buy one as a collecter I would look for one with the recalled safety, because they will probably be more rare, and therefore worth more.

Both are good guns. You'll find the the SPAS will weigh more, this can be considered good or bad depending on your preferences. I've like both of them for different reasons. The M3 is stylish, sleek, and fast. The SPAS has a much more menacing look and that is why it has been used in so many movies, "its got that look".

The M3 has a smoother pumping system than the SPAS. Both guns are very fast in semi auto mode. The SPAS has the option of the folding stock with the hook, very advantageous when shooting one handed. The M3 can be fired one handed as well, but the SPAS is more controllable when being fired that way. Accessories are more readily available for the M3, than for the SPAS.

I am also considering the price of a preban SPAS vs. the price of a preban M3....about $1000-1500 more for the M3.....Thank you all for replying to my question....you all were very helpful
