Maddsen Rifle

I bought this rifle at a gun show about 15 years ago , its military style mauser in 30-06. the stamping on the receiver says" maddsen M GIA 3126-xx 30 cal" on the top of the receiver is stamped"fuerzas armadas De Colombia" . From the stamping I figured it was made in colombia but was always skeptical because the finish on the rifle is so nice, the stock and the blueing is the nicest I've seen on a military rifle. It has a short barrel and stock which has made it a decent deer rifle ,and has been pretty devastating to the pac of wild dogs by my house out to about 100 yds, thats about as far as I can shoot using its peep sights. Does this thing have any colectable value or should I just go ahead and put a scope on it and get the rest of the dogs that think I can only shoot 100yds.Does anyone know where I might be able to find the bayonet for it. Thanks for any input.

Like the man said! Leave it alone...Don't destroy the Value of this Weapon by drilling and tapping or any other thing that comes to mind...I believe the original order for this rifle was 50,000 units..Like the Peruvian Mauser, it was chambered for the 30-06, as that was pretty much the excepted caliber for this side of the World...The Mauser model 98 bayonet should fit your rifle...By your discription...You have a Nice Collectors Piece...Enjoy it...! Best....

lazywallrus, I like you, have one that lookes perfect. I have thought about selling it several times, then the next minute, I say, "I might want to hold on to this one". They were made for the columbian military in 30-06. However, from what I have read, there were several thousand produced in other calibers as well. If you were to find one of these, you would indeed have a collectors item. Just a tidbit for future gunshows and trades.

By the way, how well does it group? I have never fired mine because it looks like it has never been fired, there are hardly any detectable "sliding" marks on the bolt. Does yours have front and rear hooded sights? Does it also have the integral muzzle break? How about the rubber butt plate?

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

It groups about 4-6 inches at 100 yds , but Im not the greatest shot either. Maybe someday I'll take it to a real gun range and check it out at 2-300 hundred yds. It has a hooded front sight w/ a muzzle brake and an adjustable rear peep sight that adj. out to 1000 but im not sure if its yds or meters and it does a have rubber butt pad. I'll definitly never sell it , it has senetmental value, it was my first rifle beides my marlin 22 my dad bought for me. Hopefully my son will get his first deer with it too.

Last night I was online and going through web sites in shotgun news and found the bayonet I think it was SARCO or JG sales I e-mailed myself the page but it didnt go through , shouldnt be hard to find again. thanx for the input.

laztwallrus, let me know when you get the bayonette and if looks and fits good. I might also be interested in getting one for mine.

Were you using a premium ammo when you shot a 100yds or were you using military ball ammo?

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!
