I been thinking about a safe for a while but shipping and safe prices just hold me back. Went to Sam's today and found a Winchester fire resistent 60"X30"X24" 625# beauty. It has a tumble lock and key. Nothing fancy but sure better than I got. Sound like a fair deal for a decent safe to you guys? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Dandy

Forgot to mention they want 900 bucks for the safe and they guarantee repair or replacement for fire or attempted illegal entry.

If my rusty math skills still work that's a 25 cf safe. Without knowing the number of bolts in the door, the type of lock (combo, key, electric), and the fire rating it's hard to be real certain. My guess is that I could probably find a very comparable safe for $699-799. I've looked at a fair amount of safes and it always seems like you're going to pay more whenever it says Remington, Browning, or Winchester.

Some times your paying for only the name,as long as it is UL listed and approved for sae at what the say it will do tour ok.Most safes are made by Bates, the casket maker! But it should be a very good investment.Make sure you put a dehumidifier rod in your safe,so your guns wont collect moisture and rust.

    Best!!

I've also seen these at Sam's, they seem like a good price. However I have not shopped for a safe lately. Compare them with other safe in the area you can find. Check the fire rating, for me that is one of the most important things. Most locking systems one a real safe(not a tin box)will be good. However if you are using this for a business such as a gun shop or you have a high value collection that a lot of people know about, the locking system may be of more concern. I think the chances of a common theif trying to break into a real safe are slim. If they can't pick it up and carry it away they probable won't waste their time.

Dandy, The safe you are refering to is made by "granite security products". I purchased one for about $900. I shopped around and for the price it was one of the better deals.Certified fire protection, group 2 lock and interior can be converted to all long guns or long guns and shelves. It has active bolts on the outer edge of door, none on top ,bottom or hinge side(has fixed plate on hinge side). My other safe is a browning platinum plus fire which is a lot heavier, thicker door, active bolts all the way, s&g lock etc.. But it cost me $2000+. So "for the money" the winchester/granite security safe seems to be a good deal. Rayzor25
