Pre WWII 1911A1 grip info

Do any of you know how to tell what kind of grips came on a pre-WWII Colt Commercial Government Model? I've seen descriptions that count the rows of checkering between the diamonds and have been told they were walnut with double diamonds and no medallion. Come on-someone must have a pre war govt with original grips they could look at and tell me. Pleeeeease!
