I know this is gonna sound like a dumb question[:p]but here it goes.
I want to sell off about 10 guns (rifles and shot guns no pistols)and was wondering if i needed an ffl to do so at a gun show? I live in Calif. if that makes a differnce. (besides giving you all reason to poke fun at me).
Thanks
Corren

Being a CA resident myself, you can sell your guns at a show to a dearler who has a FFL. If you sell to a private party, (individual) you have to go through a dealer for the transfer. The buying person, still has to go through the "background" check, and pay the transfer fees. The larger guns shows, have dealers willing to do this. Personally I think you are better off selling them here on GB. The only thing you have to do is mail your gun to the dealer of choice, who is chosen by the buyer. The buyer sends you a copy of the FFL, and the shipping address has to match the address on the FFL. The copy of the FFL you keep in your records to show how you disposed of the gun. You can ship UPS, USPS, or Fedex. The bring the copy of the FFL with you in case there are any questions by the shipper. Always insure the firearm. I've been shipping USPS Priority mail lately, (2-3 days) for long guns it's usually less than $25. Also, break any long gun down that you can. Like on shotguns remove the barrel if you can. Shorter packages are easier to handle.Regards Dave

dave, im gonna have to challenge you on the box issue. the bigger the box, the harder it is to conceal it under a crooked fedex or ups employee's jacket. the bigger the better![^]

Corren: Yes can rent table space at a gun show, which typically runs $75. and up. But before you go through that, you may want to ask the show coordinaters if there will be a dealer on hand to handle the transfer. I don't know where you are in CA, but I know the shows at Cal Expo in Sacramento, and a few in the SF bay area have dealers on board.
For BOBSKI: the gentle man is talking LONG guns, let's face it most rifles can't be broken down easily, but shotguns can be. Even with the barrel removed they are still in a box about 30 inches long or longer. The reason I said this in the last 5 years I've received a couple of vintage Md 12's with busted butt stocks because the sender didn't break it down. That's why I said insure it , it protects both parties!! Remember Bob not everyone packages a gun the way you or I would!! Regards Dave

You've been given very good advice on how to sell off your long guns w/o having the gun show hassels, now if you want to go ahead and butt heads at the gunshow ... have at it.

You'll only be out table rent and your selling prices can end up being lower than an auction or you'll end up keeping the gun(s).

If you have a lot of non-firearm stuff then do the table route, regardless of what you end up doing w/ your long guns.

I haven't been to even a small show in north state recently that did not have at least one transfer dealer present.
Insuring my '76 Winchester with OOPS was a waste of money; they refused to accept responsibility for the broken stock. I have had other bitter experiences with BBT.

No one mentioned the best thing about GB ... You get "market price" for your firearm. If you sell at a gun show you have to set your price ... and good luck. I did that once ... and once was one time too many. I got "cherry-picked" badly (my own fault). GB is the ONLY way I would sell a gun today. Just my .02 cents worth.

Not an expert on gun and sale of guns by no means but be careful on the selling of them even out of your personal inventory. Recall reading about BATF trying to (or convicting) a person selling a goodly number of guns within a short period of time. Even though the guns were his personal weapons ATF construed that he was acting as an unlicensed gun dealer. Be careful out there.

Sell them here on Gunbroker. There is a much greater "buyer base" than what you would have at a gunshow. You are selling your items in a national market rather than a local one. I have bought guns at gunshows from dealers and sold them here at gunbroker for more than I paid.

As long as sales go through a FFL I know of no limit. You may be referring to C&R rules and regs, which can be confusing.
