Marlin 25MN extractor and magazine feed problems

Just bought a Marlin 22MN for my son and have had several problems with it in the first 100 rounds. I know this is a low-end Marlin, $150, but it should not be performing this way. I have several Marlin lever action rifles that perform flawlessly. I could use some help or suggestions before I send it in to Marlin. I'm just venting some frustrations here, not whining. This was an Easter gift to my son.

1. If I put a full 7 rounds into the magazine, the first two have problems feeding unless I make sure that they are pushed as far forward as possible. No problems with 5 rounds or less, but this should not happen with 1 round or 7 rounds.

2. It has no problems extracting CCI ammo, but ANY Winchester ammo eventually has a tendency to get stuck and the extractor will not grab it. This starts happening after about 20 rounds of ANY Winchester ammo is fired through it. This is frustrating because I have to use a dental pick to pry them out and the Winchester ammo does produce the best groups. I checked the extractor for any burrs, but just rubbing the flat side of the pick across took off the blueing.

3. The scope mounting grooves in the receiver are not straight. I couldn't find a scope that had enough adjustment to move the crosshairs NEAR the center of the bore sighter. I tried Burris, Weaver, and Leupold rings just to be sure. They all mounted a Weaver or Burris scope looow and waaaay left. I ended up putting a Millet red dot on it. My son really thinks it's cool, so this challenge was overcome.

The good news is, the rifle does have Marlin accuracy.

Is there some coating on the Winchester ammo that is gumming things up?

Does the magazine just need time to break in?

Thanks.

Was it brand new or used? If new I would contact Marlin I have a 25MN and have not had a single problem with it.

It's brand new D@D. Almost wish I had spent twice the money and bought another CZ for him.

The poorly machined scope groove is a MAJOR error in manufacturing, and it can only be corrected at the factory.

I recommend strongly that you contact customer service about a return. Tell them about the magazine problem too, and you may get a couple of mags out of the deal.

Thanks NUNN. What do you think about the extraction problem? It really concerns me about Marlin QC. I hear the same things about the "old" Colt and the "new" Colt.

    Thanks

I would send it back or talk with the dealer who sold it to you.

I have not used Marlin's customer service in a few years, but when I did, they were all right.

I needed a trigger group for a M9. It was my fault, having driven a pin out that I shouldn't have and it scattered on me.

They wanted me to return the rifle. I balked at that. No sense sending the whole rifle and paying shipping, when the trigger group was the problem. I finally convinced CS to accept the broken trigger group for repair. They didn't bother to repair it, but sent me a new unit, free of charge.

Thanks NUNN and D@D. I bought the rifle from a large chain retailer here in Pacific NW called GI JOE'S. They made it clear that once the rifel left their building that I was on my own. I learned several important lessons. I'll call Marlin tomorrow and see what they say. I already told my son that if it can't be made to function corectly, I'll use it as a trade in at my FIREARM dealer or ask Marlin for some type of compensation. Everything happens for a reason.
