[8D] From sunny Florida....

Thanks for all your responses on the FN Five-seveN question I posted yesterday! Most of the answers seemed to have the drift in them that this pistol is NOT being imported. They are posted currently on BB and AA and I have listings for them being in stock at a couple of my suppliers.......so, they're already here. I guess they got the BATFE green light as one answer posed, but another answer said that the armor piercing ammo wan't (except at gun shows) available!?

So, I'm still wondering....why, if this load can pierce body armor, (and the gun was NOT for importation) are we seeing it for sale to the general public? This is more rhetoric than anything else. I don't understand a lot of federal restriction as it is....nor do I expect to. Ever!!

Thanks,

GunHawke

From what I see, it is true that anyone who can legaly own a firearm can have them, I think they are way to high in my opinion. Have heard that they generally go for about $450 but that is not the case with the ones being sold to civilians, and the pricey ones do not even have the 20 round mags, go figure.

I can tell you that the five nines are selling for much more than $450, even the non-IOM models. Don't believe everything you hear.

First of all almost any bullet can defeat body armour including a .22.
Of course the more dense (or layers) of body armour provide more protection. Most body armour is made to protect from hand gun calibers, then of course there is the other body armour that contains ballistic plates that will provide some protection for rifle calibers.
As for as the sell of bullets that will defeat body armour, most hunting/sporting rifle calibers 223 and above will go clear through them. And the bullets are not specfically designed for that sole purpose.
So to say that hunting/sporting bullets are being sold soley for the defeat of body armour is not so.
And yes you can buy Armour Pierceing ammo for the FN5/7 on the internet, gunshows, and some local stores. But at $4-$5 per round for AP, they are not selling a whole bunch.
Beside, I have shot a police demo P90 & the 57. And found that both have alot to be desired past 25 meters in accuracy and durablity.
