My father in law gave me an old pistol and i know nothing about it,counting on you experts! It says Harrington and Richardson, patent 1895 on top of barrel. It is a break open 32 S&W ctg. Nickel or chrome plated and hammerless. It is about 70% with corrosion on cylinder ends. Serial number 237780. Can any of you gracious volunteers tell me when it was made and what it's worth? It is a family heirloom to him and he remebers his grandfather shooting it off on New Year's in Baltimore in the 1930s. Thanks!

Yeah, I know what your going thru. My great uncle handed down a H&R Young American, sounds about same condition. Some felt it was afamily heirloom. I didn't say much as I Know dad said he shot it once and was afraid to again. Blue Book has a listing for "Hammerless" and it is under another listing above it as "Automatic Ejecting". Large frame, nickel or blue finish, double action, 3.25,4, 5, or 6" barrel,6 shot in .32S&W, break open.

    80% $65 ; 70% $55 ; 60% $45

As far as a suicide special, it better be close range. Not saying a .32 S&W wouldn't hurt or even kill a person, but I shot a woodchuck at 5 foot once and all he did was get p...ed off at me.

H&R made quite a few different Saturday Nite Specials (aka Suicide Special), so, from your description, it's hard to tell which one you have.

Generally speaking, however, they all pretty much tend to fall in the price range allechalley gave you.

There's an inexpensive book that will give you the production dates of all the H&Rs: http://www.booktrail.com/Guns_General/DOMHarrington.asp

Do like I did and buy a few more and create a great (cheap) wall display.

i can't find a listing for the h&r hammerless auto-ejecting having just the one patent date marked on it, but if it is marked on the left side of the barrel with the caliber only it was manufactured between 1909 and 1913.
