Springfield '03 Feeding Problem

I have a 1903 Springfield (S.A. built Serial 950XXX)that always "ejects" the last unspent cartridge in the magazine right out of the gun as you eject the cartridge (or spent casing) previous to it. I've dropped the plate inspected the spring and follower as well as the machining inside the reciever. All looks good. I notice on my Mauser M48A which has similar feeding characteristics that there is much less spring pressure on the follower. I tried to emulate this by dropping the bottom plate and holding the bottom plate with magazine spring a few inches from the gun, thus reducing the spring pressure and it feeds very well this way. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob
V35....You weren't there when I posted. I would also try a different follower-after trying a new spring[8D]
