Need some info fellows. I have purchased a FN mauser made in Belgium sold by Firearme International of Washington D.C., 1948 ia also stampwed on the side of the action. The rifle is in excllent condition. All serrial numbers match, action, barrel, bolt ect. But It appears to have been custom made for someone. It has a medium heavy barrel in 30.06, 24" long, hooded front sight, no rear sight. The barrel has not been drilled and taped for a rear sight. There are 2 screw holes on the right side on the back of the action that could acsept a receiver sight. The stock has a steel butt plate that is ribbed and a steel grip cap. The stock is made of very nice stright grain walnut with a different type of wood on the tip and cap. The rifle came with a 3x9x32mm Fontaine rifle scope. I have never seen one of these scopes before either. The name Hakko is inlaied in gold on the left side of the scope and of course it was made in Japan. I gave $323.00 for this rig and I was wanting some info on the value of this rifle and more info on this scope if anyone can help. One more note on the scope. All of my rifles have Leupold, Nikon or Burris scopes on them and this small scope is as clear or clearer than the most expensive scope I own. With the small objective lines I do not expect it to do well late in the afternoon but any other time it should be OK. Is this scope woth keeping or should I get ride of it.

Thanks
Hornet

Found references for both your rifle & scope.

The rifle was called the Musketeer, built on FN Mauser Action, 24" barrel, no sights, circa 1963 - 1972.

Best thing to do would be to obtain Gun Digest's from that time frame and look in the catalog section for Firearms International products.

The scope is of a later vintage, it was advertised in the 1985 Gun Digest. It was one of (4) models of the Fontaine, and sold in the $150 range.
