Shape of the cartridge. The "K" is an improved version with a sharper, or more pronounced shoulder and it thus provided a little more case capacity and purported better powder ignition.

The 22 Hornet is a fantastic varmit cartridge. It was used extensively during the 1930s - 1950s. The K-Hornet will easily push a 45 gr. JHP to 3100 fps (approaching 222 Remington ballistics). It is a relatively quiet cartridge, and is extremely mild to shoot. I only own three Varmit rifles... one in 22 K-Hornet, and the other two in 222 Rem Mag. I personally do not see the need to push a varmit sized bullet any faster than what the 222 Rem Mag is capable of.

I am going to use either the 22 or 22-K Hornet to use in Silhouettes. From what I understand it is a flat shooter. I use the 22LR for Small Bore Hunters Silhouette and want to shoot Large Bore as soon as possible.

    hello gskyhawk...

I honestly do not know how the 22 Hornet will perform out of a 14" T/C Super Contender, but I am willing to bet that it will perform quite well. It should be an slick shooting medium range varmit killer in the Super Contender. I have a good friend that has a T/C Encore chambered for 22 K-Hornet, and he is in love with it[^].

While I am a BIG fan of the 22 K-Hornet, I do not believe that it qualifies as a "big bore" silhoutte cartridge. If you intend to shoot "big bore" silhouttes, I would highly recommend either the 7mm IHMSA or 7mm-08.

FYI you can't use the K-Hornet for shooting silhouette. You can use a 10" or 12" Hornet to shoot NRA Hunter pistol silhouette. The K-Hornet would qualify for bigbore (IHMSA) but it won't knock down the big targets. You get excellent accuracy from the T/C Contender barrels in this caliber. It's a pretty hot cartridge even in a pistol. I have to load mine down so I don't damage the 50 yard targets. I hope this helps. If you buy it you will love it.[:)]
