Reloading fer 45 Long Colt.

About a Mo. ago I bought me a used Ruger Blk Hawk in 45 Colt. Came with Dies,,slugs, Brass. Loaded up 100 Rounds with a load I got out of the Speer's reloading Book fer Rugurs, 10gr of winchester 231 with 250gr cast bullet, That their is one HOT Load, Me thinks to HOT. Only load that load, Ifn your in to pain and dont want your shootin Iron to last to long.

    You know, there is a reason your advised to start low and work up, each gun is different. Just because it safe in there test gun dosn't mean it will be in yours.
    This is even more true when you try using someones "pet load" off the net.

    Gunner, Your RIGHT and most of the time I do that, but knowing the Ruger is a strong built Pistol, I went to the Top Load and wish I had Not.[:0]

    Heavy bullets aren't fun much over 1000 fps. Try some 200 grain bullets.

    Personally, I never use the 'fast' powders for full house loads.
    A small error can give you a big problem.
    I am fond of Dupont IMR for my mag loads. It is not possible to 'double load' with a powder this bulky. For you guys who charge you primed brass in a block, you could double load with the fast powders. Just me tho.
