I have a few questions on a rifle I just bought. While I am somewhat knowledgeable on the 1903 models,,,mainly on "what not to buy". I do however have not come across a "original" very often. So this is what I have and you tell me what you think I may have.

Springfield Armory, 1903, #98,0xx. Barrel date of 03-05.

As to what I have read,,reciever is made in fall of 1906
barrel is 03-05,,,barrel is older then reciever,is that good on a collection standpoint? this gun in in 95% condition and I know that for a fact, with no "tuned up" markings anywhere. I bought it from an old man for $20 and a 10-22,he wanted something "fun to shoot". His dad "brought it home" so use your imagination on that tid-bit. I am interested on anything anyone has to say on this,,good or bad.

Wolfe...Spend $22.00 on Joe Poyer's book "The M1903 Springfield Rifle and its Variations". That book will go a long long way in letting YOU know what you have! With about 3 hours research into the book you w2ill be talking like an expert...at least on your model of Springfield! Colonel Brophy's book is also very good but I think Poyers is an easier read for the neophite(me on Springfields!). Beach
