old single shot

I have in my collection a Texas Ranger single shot 12ga. It has a 36" round barrel. I got it from my great grandpa years ago. What I was wondering, is "Texas Ranger" an actual gun manufacturer? How old can this gun possibly be.

This morning I was given an old single shot 10-gauge shotgun that is marked Wilson's Welded Steel. The 1902 Sears catalog lists several guns made the same way. I have been unable to find out if it refers to Damascus or twist barrels. Does anyone know for sure?

    Hello sp306...

The "Texas Ranger" name was a Trade name used by the Montgomery Ward and Company of Chicago on inexpensive firearms. To determine who may have actually nade the gun for Wards, you will need to tell us what type of action it has (e.g. bolt action or break-open). Most likely, it is either a Mossberg, Stevens, or Marlin made gun.

TEXAS RANGER, Made by Stevens Arms..Model 95, came in 12 and 16 Gauges..In Excellent Condition...$65.00...........By the way...I forgot to give You the Years of Manufacture...Made 1965 to 1969... And like HeDog said...Its a treasure....Because Great Grand Daddy gave it to you...That makes it a 3 generation Shootin' Iron....and to a lot of Young Whippersnappers that makes it Old...unlike some Old Codgers what I know over to New Messyco......

Family treasures don't have to be worth a lot of money to be treasures. Wish I had a shotgun from my great grandaddy, any shotgun.
