Early Colt AR-15 value?

I have an SP-1 with a four digit serial # 38XX, mint condition- looks unfired. Three-prong flash hider, no butt trap and rear sling swivel is moveable, no plastic coat on the front one. Barrel is not marked "chromed". Has Armalie marked magazine. I have never shot it and probably never will because it looks too new. I am thinking about selling it as a result, how much is a fair price to ask for it? I don't want to ask too much, but I don't want to get cheated either.
I don't have the box and papers, just the gun- sure looks and feels brand new though.

Thanks,

John

I'm far from an expert and don't know if the early serial # means anything to the collector, however, I've been pricing these locally and elswhere for the last two weeks in anticipation of a buy. They sell quickly at $1,200 and languish for $1,500+. (Locally is Mid-Mississippi, your local pricing and mileage may be vary). Yours may be far better condition than the ones I'm seeing though?

That would be a 1965 model I believe ... I had a 66 in mint condition, was still stiff when you opened it up, hardly a mark on the hammer sold it about 4 years ago for $2400 but it took a while ... that is a collector piece and they don't always sell right away. I'd reccomend listing it on GunBroker and wouldn't take less than $2000. You never know when the "right" person will be looking ... re-listing is free!

You might even consider trading it ... find some one that really wants it and you might get a lot more value in trade for it!

I agree with Kimber, it's a very collectable piece. Don't get it too big a hurry to sell. Some one will come along who wants it and needs it to complete a collection.

Thanks for the input guys. I only opened it up one time- the push pin was so tight I had to take a wood dowel and plastic hammer to tap it out of engagement. No wear marks inside, the upper and lower receiver are drum tight- so are the handguards. I'll take your suggestions. I originally bought it to shoot, but realized after I got it it was just too minty. It is the best one I have seen in many years.
