Does anyone know how to remove the rear sight collar on an O3 Springfield? Thanks in advance.

I am interested in buying an o3 springfield,[:p] but from what I understand, ther is a problem with receiver hardness.[xx(]
I want to fire the rifle and hopefully work up to 1000 yards,[}:)] something I can do with the m-14.[;)]...what should I look for when I check out the 03? [?]

There is a problem with early receivers AND bolts. I suggest that you buy the inexpensive booklet from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, as it has photos of the different types of bolts. It also lists the serial #s for safe receivers.

If you are going to shoot at 1,000 yds, I suggest that you buy a muzzle wear gauge; a safe receiver won't do you any good if the barrel is shot out.

Or, you could just buy the rifle from CMP.
