LC Smith question??

I have a LC Smith serial #1734XX with an "F" below it,16 gauge double barrel,Double hammers and trigers. Plain stock no checkering, no rust on barrel or action. The barrel has "HUNTER ARMS CO., FULTON NY, the action has LC SMITH with no engraving and has ejectors. It's got the old butt plate made I guess of hard plastic with a dogs head on it. Also the original canvas carring case with what looks to be felt inside.

Any idea what this gun may be worth and when it was made and what grade it is??? thanks a bunch

    Hello highlander007...

It was manufactured in early 1914, and it is a Field Grade gun. I have my doubts that it has true ejectors (which will throw an empty over your shoulder), but instead, it likely has common extractors. Value will be based on how much of the original case colors are left on the frame, and the condition of the bores. One other thing to note... it was NOT chambered for the currently standard length shells (2 3/4"), so don't shoot it until you have had the chambers measured.

Very unusual to have a Elcee without checkering. My guess is that the forestock is checkered. If so, then either a restock or a refinish on the buttstock.

well the forarm has no checkering either and the serial # matches the one on the barrel and the finish on the buttstock is the same. the finish is a blue grey no rust or pits at all some minor pitting inside the barrels.

I'll second Nord's suggestion that it should be checkered---if the buttplate fits snugly and doesn't show signs of being sanded to fit, the butt is likely a replacement. Also, check the barrels underneath for proof marks and/or "armor steel". The type of steel should appear somewhere on the barrels---they might be Damascus.
