I have 44 rounds of steel cased 45ACP HB in govt box. They were acquired fron the DCM in the fifties. No date on the cases. The box reads: Any idea to their value would be appreciated. As well as date of mfg.

My best guess on the date of manufacture is about 1943. My logic behind this date is the Evansville plant was also manufacturing them at this time.
The value of a box of ammunition very much depends upon the condition of the box. The better the condition the higher the value can be obtained from a box lot collector. If the box is torn, scuffed, or has ragged edges it usually does not command the price of a mint box.
Usually I see full boxes of this variety of 45 ACP going for somewhere between $20.00 to $30.00 per box, but some of this is overpriced due to the condition of the box. It seems like everything of WWII vintage is going up.
Here is a link to an auction. You can go to the GunBroker home page, click Advanced Search, type "45 ACP steel", select category "ammunition", select "auctions closed with past 90 days" and you will get list of auction activity.
