Springfield 1899 ??

Springfield model 1899 in 30-40 krag.
see the picture.
has the last 9 in 1899 been stamped over some other number?
What model is this rifle?
serial # is 308010

    Well, there was a Model 1896 ... so that might be it.

    The 1899 Krag Carbine and Model 1899 were altered for knife bayonet and gun sling. Maybe yours was rearsenaled in '99. Yours have the bayo attachment?[8D]

    The best thing for you to do would get hold of a copy of "Flayderman's Guide". It's the bible for collectors of antique American Firearms. It has a section on Krag's with pictures of the two different 1899 Models. As you don't provide pictures or a physical description of the one your inquiring about, we have no way to help answering your question.

    The serial number shows a manufacture date of 1901 so it should be an 1899 Model. Maybe the stamping die malfunctioned.

    No bayonet lug.
