What is the optimum bullet weight/gr. theoritically for this rifle with a 1:10" rate of twist for hunting accuracy? This will be a deer hunting rifle, maybe elk. Does anyone have some favorites in "factory" loads? Not a handloader just yet. Your expertise is greatly appreciated as I have not gained much success with stuff I've been using.

Most of the time the 270 uses 130 grain bullets, but over the years I've noticed most of them like the 150 grain better.
You should really get into reloading for it to get the most out of it......

    Late-Bloomer,

I would check the twist rate in your barrel to be sure that you really have a 1:10" twist. Normal factory twist rates these days usually run 1:9" so that most bullets can be stabilized.

Bullets appropriate to a particular twist rate are determined by their length not by weight unfortunately since most manufacturers still label by weight not by length. There are some such as Hornady and Sierra that are putting recommended twist rates on their packaging.

In your case, the bullets that will be stabilized by the 1:10 twist will be about 1.151" long. By checking the length against the weights, it looks like the 140 gr. bullets are about the best selection. There can be exceptions to all of this so testing in your rifle is required to be absolutely sure what works best.

    Best.

Thanks Gentlemen for the info., I'll go ahead & check my twist rate again to be sure. Do you know of any web-sites where I could gather this type of info. for my other rifles in other calibres? As a newbie to all of this rate of twist/ bullet length stuff I just want to eliminate some bullet lenghths that won't be stabilized in my rifles, then experiment from thereon. Anymore info. on this would be greatly appreciated!!! Again, Happy New Year!!!

All my 270's have been fond of Federal premium 130 gr sierra boattials. I reload 140's in my handloads.

I have a run of the mill
    BDL 270 and shoot Cabelas
    Federal fusion 150 grainers:
3/4" ctr to ctr at 100 yds.
Not bad, Not bad at all
