Remington 1100 magazine feed problems

Thanks for any assistance!
I have been borrowing a friend's 1100 and have been having magazine
feed problems. I have cleaned the gas ports and piston components
(o-rings looked good, did not replace). Fired rounds eject well, the
new rounds don't feed. I noticed that my 870's carrier flips up during cycling of the action. The 1100's carrier does not flip up when I cycle the 1100's action manually.
Standard 2.75, 3 dram, 1.125oz Windchester shotshells are used.
Any ideas where I should check?

Is the bbl chambered for 2.75" or 3"? A 3" bbl won't cycle 2.75". If it's not the chambering, best guess is the carrier got bent, or there's pieces of plastic from the hulls stuck in the trigger group. Trigger group drops out easily with the two pins removed.

The dead giveaway on a 3" 1100 barrel is it only has one gas port where a 2 3/4" has 2. By the way Trap55, I shoot 2 3/4" magnums in my 3" 1100 barrel on a 2 3/4" frame. It won't function with 2 3/4" standard shells.

Does the shell latch release the next round from the magazine when cycling the action? If not the problem is with the latch. If it does the lifter/carrier is the problem.

Might just be some dirt, crud or a piece of shot in the trigger group. Pull the trigger group and clean well.

Pearyw, I have seen a few that will, with real heavy loads. I've also seen where some fool has drilled out the gas port to cycle 2.75" Trap loads. No problem with that, until that bbl ends up in somebody else's hands, and he decides to unknowingly shoot 3" in it.
spike74, 1100's are picky about being clean, pop the trigger group out and give it a good cleaning. That usually cures about 99% of problems with them. If you find the shell latch bent, broken or worn, let me know, I think I have a new one laying around here somewhere.
