garand question

I recently aquired a CMP H&R Garand, and had the good fortune to get one with almost all HRA parts. The only non HRA part I find is an SA op rod. Drawing number on op rod is 6535382 SA. My first thought was to find an HRA op rod to make everything match, but then someone on another website mentioned that some of the early H&R's were issued with SA op rods. Any input and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

What does it mean when a part for a garand is stamped with "BMB"? thanks.

I always hear how wonderful the M1 is, and how acurate. I always hear how the Mini-14/30 is neat, but not acurate due to its action. I owned a -30 for a while and the manual said it used the garand action. (I never owned a garand, and no longer own the -30)

SO, IF both use the same action, how can one be great and acurate because of its action, and one be inacurate because of its action? Sounds like the action is the strong point of one, and the downfall of the other, how is this possible?

As stated, I own neither, am curious nonetheless, what part am I missing here?

i have noticed that my M1C is developing a nasty habit of spitting out a clip that still has a few rounds in it..sometimes 2 or 3 sometimes as many as 5 left..i use surplus ball ammo alot that comes loaded in clips so i tried some good winchester..thinking maybe an ammo problem but that did not help..does not do it all the time but is getting more frequent..i went ahead and tore it down and replaced the clip latch.clip latch pin and spring and put a new operating rod spring in..i did notice the new op rod spring was about an inch longer than the original,,i have not been to the range yet any other things i need to look for if i still have this problem?? or could a weak op rod spring be the culprit

I am by no means an expert on this gun, trying to learn about it & have some fun playing with it. My son & I fired four different sessions of 8 rounds each and that was awesome in the least. The problem we have is it is tearing the hell out of the brass on ejection. These are loaded rounds that we loaded. Started out with 48 grains of H4895 behind a 30 cal tracer bullet which we have plenty of so would love to use them if possible, worked up to 50 grains 48.5 -49-50 The 50 grain loads seem to do the least amount of damage to the brass, denting the end as it ejects is what it appears like, but would like to know if this is the nature of the beast or are we doing something wrong. The OAL we loaded them at is 3.240, would like to salvage the brass more then we are now if possible. Not really into accuracy with this gun yet. Until we get more time shooting it. Is this common for this gun to dent or ruin the brass on ejection? I think the last round fired is way worse than the other rounds fired. It seemed like the hotter the load the less damage to the brass. Went as far as we want to go until we get some info from the experts.
    Thanks and Merry Christmas

I am looking at an M-1 Garand that is for sale that is Navy marked. The question is, are Navy marked Garands still in 30-06, or are they .308, and also, does the Navy marking add a significant amount to the value ?

Does anyone know what the WC and E stand for on the rear sight of a Garand?

    Just curious. Thanks.

I bought a CMP Garand about 15 years ago and was wondering if anyone could provide me with some info and maybe a value for it. I have seldom shot it, but admire and respect its history. It has a Winchester Receiver with a serial number of 1276XXX Thanks.

You might want to replace the op rod catch & the bullet guide; it's unlikely that the op rod spring is the source of your problem.

I suggest that you invest in a copy of "The M1 Garand: Owner's Guide" by Scott A. Duff; that's where I got my information. It's essential for the M1 shooter.

And, you've got more nerve than I do: I'd be afraid to shoot any collectible gun worth $5K +.

Why not try out what you've done up to now and see what happens at the range? Chances are that when you replaced that clip latch spring you cured the problem.

thanks guys..i went to the range today did not have a single problem
i may replace the follower,op rod catch assm and bullet guide anyway,no telling how many miles on them..not braver than you neal, just can't let it sit there and look pretty..besides it just feels good in my hands,,i have a D model also but i think i like thi one the best, maybe because the D mod reminds me of a garand with a B square mount..
