Remington 700 "European"

I just ran acrsoss a rifle in the racks at my local gun shop that I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on. It's a Remington 700 BDL in 30.06 and the shop has labled it "European", special edition, and states it's unfired. The stock looks like French walnut and has an incredible pattern. It also has iron sights. I'm considering purchasing it but would sure like to know more about it, although any 700 in 30.06 is probably worth considering if in decent condition. Anyone ever heard of this before?

There are a couple dozen of these variation put out by Remington:

BDL European (1993 - 1994) (from Remington's history)
Remington Mdl 700 European ADL - .30-06 NIB (1992), $500
Remington Mdl 700 European BDL - 280 Rem NIB (1992), $550

A lot of these model variations slide by the general public without much fanfare for some reason...
Best.
