    Gentlemen:
Recently I had my old A-5 gone through. Quite a few parts were changed out springs, pins, etc. The gunsmith told me the chamber had some pitting that could affect the shotgun ejecting shells. He also said the gun was chambered for the old 2 3/4" paper shells and use of modern plastic shells could result in dangerous pressures. He suggested altering the forcing cones to accomodate plastic shells. Is there a difference in 2 3/4" chambers? Plastic shells were used in this gun for years and I didn't know it was a situation that could be dangerous. Was I uninformed or is the gunsmith being overly cautious? Thanks

EDIT: The barrel is marked 2 3/4" Maybe the forcing cones were different in the earlier paper shell days, I just didn't know there was a difference.

Many a-5 stocks are marked with a 1 or 2 digit stanp right behind the knob on the pistol grip. I have never seen this stamp on a square knob stock but I have seen them on round knobs....I have had people tell me that if the stam isn't there it indicated the stock has been refinished...I reject that out of hand...what do you KNOW about it?

The numbers don't match up in my reference. Are you sure it is 6 digits? Any letter prefixes or suffixes?
