Baretta 25 acp..question

My local gun shop has a Baretta Model 950 25acp up for grabs..I bought a new one 2 years ago, and was very disappointed, as it was a REAL dog...The mag fell apart upon firing the gun, and the slide also
was lousy..I was told here, that the earlier Baretta jetfires made
in the 1980's or back further were better made..My question is how to tell the difference from looking at it?? ..This one is obviously used..and says model 950 on the slide..

The early 950's, ( prior to 1968 ) were made in Italy. They will have Italian proof marks and proof date. GCA 68 stopped importation of the small Beretta pistols.

They didn't become available again until the 80's, when they started production in the U.S. They will be marked as being made in the U.S.A., with NO Italian proof marks, etc.

The pre 1968 Beretta 950s did not have a manual safety. They were excellent guns. I have never heard a bad word said about them until now. They are considered to be on par with Browning guns. The US made Berettas have a safety. The only Italian made .22s are the .22 short Minx models. All of the .22 lr (Mod. 21) models are made in the US.
