Does a chrome bolt & carrier offer much advantage over the std bolt & carrier? Cost about $50 bucks more, is it worth it?

IMHO no. The only advantage it might have would be corrosion resistance. But if you shoot modern non corrosive ammo, clean, and store your rifle properly you will have no worries what so ever.

I agree....... the standard bolt & carrier work just fine. The only advantage I can see is that dirt and grit are easier to see during cleaning on the chrome parts. But thats not worth 50 bucks.

I have/have had both and I personally couldn't tell you any advantages of the chrome ones over the standard ones. There might be something I don't know about them, as I'm no expert, but they both went "bang" when I pulled the trigger. I currently only have the standard one and am pleased.

Greater lubricity and less wear. IMO Chromed in a full auto would have more benefit than a standard semi. I think it is an extra that isn't really needed in most cases especially If you keep your weapon fairly clean.

I have both. I will go against the grain here and say that the (good)chromed ones are worth the extra money. First you have the corrosion resistance. Second is higher lubricity. Then not only is the fouling easier to see when cleaning, it is way easier to get off as well. The (good)chromed ones are sooooo much easier to clean. Of course, like anything else, there are cheap versions to be had. Stay away from those. If they are not chromed properly, the chrome will actually start to chip away. It will leave flakes of chrome in the action which will scratch things up. Get the good ones.

LMT, Smith, Les Baer, CMT, are some of the better ones.
