My friend got one of these for Christmas and I was wondering if there were any resources as to where it was shipped/who made it/etc... if you could point me in the right way I would greatly apprecaite it. The serial # is 113955 and it has a 23" barrel. Thanks!

Well, it was made by Springfield. The 23" barrel is a bit confusing though. The rifles had a 32 5/8 barrel, and the carbines 22". Your friend may have a cut down rifle.

First thing I would loo at is the rear sight. Does it have a "C" or "R" stamped on it. Those are for carbine and rifle. Second, look at the underside. Does it appear that there was a wooden dowel or plug placed where the ramrod channel would be ?

Look on the left hand side for a cartouche. It will be a rectangle with initials, and a year in it.

Pics would help. SRS shows no info for that serial #
