I have looked at the S&W model 17 used and a new model 617. I have also seen the taurus version. Is there anything I am missing?

    quote:Go with a S&W mdl. 17.

Shooting .22's should be fun. It will be with a S&W 17.
Agreed....You can't beat an old K-22 for reliability and fun. Besides, they are just built better.....IMO. [:)][:)]

I have a 6" Model 17 - 1970s vintage - and it is extremely accurate and fun to shoot. It is the same frame as the Model 14 and has a "big gun" heft to it. After you buy a 17 you'll of course do well to pick up a 14 to keep it company. I did & am very happy with the set up.

    A note on longevity.
My Model 17 was made the year I was born.
No idea how many thousands of rounds have been through it, but it still locks up tighter than a drum and shoots as accurately as it first did, (so I'm told) back in 1948 when we both started this journey.
    Good luck.

You are missing the Colt Diamondback and the Colt Trooper in .22. My 2 cents [8D]

You say you looked at the Taurus version, was that the 94 or the 96 there's a big difference? The 96 is no longer made and compares favorably to the S&W 17.
    This is not mine.

S&W 22/32 KIT Guns are nice if you have small hands. It was built on the J frame while the K-22 is well, a K frame (next size larger)

I have a Model 35 Target (6" Barrel) that is a tack driver.

Double action revolver Bulls- eye shooting is rather challenging to do. Timed and rapid fire are tuff!

Harry Reeves (Detroit PD) was my one of my HEROs growing up. I got to meet him and hang with the DPD Pistol team as a mere lad (40+ years ago).

    BOY COULD THOSE GUYS SHOOT!

    Sir,

You do not mention the intended use for your DA 22.

If you are looking to get into serious target shooting, the top end guns already mentioned are the way to go.

    I agree, a great gun.

    2) How about a little Taurus PT-22 pocket pistol?

    3) I agree with the post about the Ruger 22 auto.

    4) You start with a 22 revolver but within a short time you will want the auto. Try out a bull barrel Ruger 22 auto and you will never look back.
