Help........I need advice on picking the right scope for my remington 223 which I will be varmit hunting with. I really would like to stay in the 600 dollar range. Used scope would be OK.

I would take a look at the Sigature select scopes from Burris. Something in the 12x-24x ought to do it.

I suggest Burris Fullfield II or Burris Signature Select with the ballistic plex reticle.

    Fullfield II 4.5x14-42

    Sig. Select 4x16-44

They both come in higher magnifications if you so desire.

I have this one on my .243 that I use to hunt coyotes with, excellent scope for the money.

The Leupolds are in the same price range as Burris and are real good scopes, but IMO not quite as bright and clear as Burris. Both companies offer a no questions asked "forever" warranty. Drop your scope on concrete and damage it, send it back to them and they'll replace or repair for free, forever. Worth a lot in my book.

I personally stay away from used scopes unless I know where/who they come from.

    I've had success with a the Weaver V16 MDT , item # 49839 on 3 of my prarie dog guns, Rampro .17Mach IV. a Ruger #3 .223, & a Ruger #1 .22-250. 4 to 16 power, 1/4 min. dot, less than $250.00 each, same sight picture on each gun, 300 rounds/day!!!

Go with the Burris...but in Mildot.

I sight my 204 & 223 dead on at 200 yards...and use the mildots from there.

I use MULTIPLE bullets/powder in both, just keep a quick reference taped to the side of your stock to know what to hold on/over/under for each bullet. Works VERY well.

Might want to look at samplelist.com for used with warranty.

Burris has a lifetime warranty. If you send it in they will fix it it does not matter if you are the first or 50th owner, they fix it. Your budget is well within the range needed to get a Burris signature scope AND Burris Signature rings. A 4X16 should do you very well for a very long time.

    Good luck, happy hunting.

Burris Signature series will serve you well, and make sure you also use the Burris Signature rings no matter what scope you end up with.
If you buy the 8X32 you sure will never wish you had more power for those 500 yard shot that can be done with a good .223

For 600 bucks I would shop around here or on fleabay and find a new Burris Signature select. Or possibly even a Black Diamond. For varmint hunting you will need at least 12x if not 14x on the high end.

hi snowy. reguardless of what brand you choose if you'll be hunting in low light conditions i.e. before or after sun-up or through spot lights get your hands on the largest objective lens you can. the lens allows more light into your retina and the colors of light is what the brain processes into images. i have an old K-8X56 weaver on my 22-250. bought it back in the late 70's (texas made weaver) Kahalus (Austria made scopes) i believe still makes a 56mm objective lens. don't take my word on it. before you buy a scope do yourself a favor and look through the difference sized lenses in low light. you'll see what i'm talkin'
