I have a Sako Riihimaki .222 on auction right now. Can any of you give me some information about the style of the stock? Did Sako make a different version for the European market? I was told that was the case here, but I have never heard of this. Here is a link to the auction.
Thanks in advance for your time.

This is a tuff one. I used to sell the older Sako's in Europe, and have never seen a stock like this. The only thing that looks familar is the action. All I can tell you is that it wasn't common and I never heard of this model.

I'm confident that some of the true experts can shed more light on this and I will follow the thread since I'd like to know also.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hello I have a rifle that all metal parts are exact match to the one you have pictured However the stock is NOTHING like yours The heavy barrel came in 2 stock designs when I got mine one a heavy target stock and the other a sporter style stock . I got the sporter style stock as I was going to use it for Ground Hog hunting . My stock is NOTHING like yours mine has straight style checking and not skip line and mine does not have the same design forend the sling swivels on yours are most likely aftermarket and I suspect Sako never used whiteline spacers on this vintage rifle . If I had to guess I think your stock is a custom job not factory. If you send me an email direct with your address I can send pictures Cheers Karl [:p]hello you have mail I sent you some pictures of mine.[:p]

That stock resembles a Fajen Trophy, but the dead giveaway is the checkering; little circular designs in a field of checks.

Don't remember ever seeing a schnauble forearm on a Sako.

It looks like my own older Sako Riihimaki in .222 Rem Mag, except that someone has cut down the factory stock a little bit, e.g., to form the schnabel foreend tip. The checkering looks like amateur, with too large an angle of intersecting lines, etc. So, I would venture to guess it is a modified, refinished, re-shaped, and checkered older Sako Riihimaki heavy barrel.
