My father has given me this rifle which was given to him by his father. It has 30 W.C.F. stamped on the barrel. The serial number is 131481. It has a "Marble" flip up peep sight and ramp sight. On the peep sight is stamped Pat. Oct 20'03 and nov 14'05. The gun is in perfect shape. No dings or dents in the stock or forearm and there is no rust or pit marks on the metal. I would like to know the year this rifle was made and an estimated value for insurance purposes. Thank you for any assistance.

my mother-in-law passed down a winchester 1894 30-30 to me. after googling for a while i found out it was manufactured in roughly 1897. serial number is 91526. it has a crack in the butt-stock, and the trigger is a little loose, but other than that i seems to be in good shape. it still has the saddle ring attached. I was wondering if anyone had a rough estimate on value and would anyone consider shooting a rifle this old.
    Thanks!

the condition is the key as left winchester around 1908'.the cody firearms museum has records but this gun might be just out of existing records on file 1905' and under are there. refinished old winchester guns are a negative value wise . post pictures and wait for bert's reply here

    Hello Michelle,

The serial number on your Model 1894 Sporting Rifle suggests that it was manufactured circa 1912. The Cody Firearms Museum only has the original factory ledgers up through serial number 353,999 (which was in the year 1910).

As for the value, you need to post considerably more information and/or pictures of it. Depending upon the precise graded condition, factory originality, and configuration, it could be worth anywhere from as little as $300 to as much as several thousand $$$$.
