7.62x39 rifles?

What other rifles out there are commonly chambered in the AK round? A buddy of mine is tired of his junk AK, but is hung up on that "popular" round (3/4's of the world use them). What other ideas/options are there out there?

Doesn't like his junk AK, he could buy a good AK like a Vepr, Saiga, or Krebs Custom. Or build his own.

Thats pretty much the gold standard for AK's, new, old, good, bad, ugly.
I don't see a serious niche for 762x39 other than the mil-surp one.

I've not considered the round otherwise. Just me.
If I'm serious about the ammo shot from my 'better' guns, I'm loading it.

I personally do not care much for the round, but he is set on the commonality of this round. He's not into it for the quality of the round or the stats of it, but rather for how many countries use it.

He bought an AK, not sure of the make, but is not happy with it. Chief complaint from him is the mag well, how difficult it is to seat the mags properly.
