I have a m1 carbine that is a us postal meter with a odd barrel. There is no date at the top by the front sight. But under the barrel at the receiver is two lines of numbers and a yellow stamp the numbers are 8448416 HO under that is 12-72 Lot.The yellow stamp looks like a dod stamp of a square box with a eagle and 3 stars. Can some one shed some light(history) of this barrel.the carbine is a non-import.thanks Rodney

It's a commercial replacement barrel. There have been 2 companies with the Citadel name making them, but I'm not familiar with the markings they used.

Commercial barrels usually are short chambered & have a long skirt; if you have any doubt about the installation on your carbine, you will want to have it checked out by a gunsmith.
