Am looking to purchase a western style revolver soon. Have looked at Ruger, Beretta, Taurus, Colt, A W A. Is there anyhting special I should look for to make my purchase? They all seem to have pros and cons but neither seem to have everything i want to stand out. Example: I had every intention to purchase a Ruger Vaquero ss. I liked the .45lc/45acp combo that they provide. But they seem to have the worse trigger pulls of all the revolvers I have tried. The Taurus seemed to be the best for the money but they lack other features. Any opinions would be greatly aprreciated.

If it's just the trigger that's bugging you, I would go with the Vaquero. In these days of predatory lawsuits, all triggers have to be lawyer proof.

Go to this site for information on how to massage the Vaquero's trigger,so you will be happy with it.

I would agree with rufe-snow. I was born and bread a compatition shooter and I hate the trigger of every production gun today, that does not stop me from buying the gun that I want though. When I get the gun I want I just work over the trigger, you may want to send it to a gunsmith or you might be able to do it youself. But buy the end of it you have the gun you want with a trigger that fits you just right.

While you have not listed all the revolver manufacturers, I would still agree with rufe-snow. Buy the one you like best and massage the short comings.

I have a Colt SAA 2nd generation and an Uberti Dakota and both have the "breaking glass rod" trigger let-off. My old model Ruger Bisley has, for me, a perfect trigger. It closely resembles the trigger let-off in the old pre-war S&W's when they fire in the single action mode. I'm surprised that the Vaquero you tried had a poor trigger.

was the Ruger a Vaquero or a New Vaquero ?

the Vaquero has been discontinued and replaced by the New Vaquero , if you are wondering how you can tell which they are ,

look on the frame , the discontinued model is simply marked Ruger Vaquero with the caliber under it

the new guns are marked Ruger New Vaquero, with the caliber under it

the New Vaquero has a smaller frame, is better balanced , has a better trigger, over all a very nice gun

buy the Ruger , they look better , will last a life time and more
