Sold my pistol, have questions.

I sold my pistol on Gunbroker this week. The buyer asked me for a copy of my driver's license with the gun going to his FFL dealer. Is that the usual method on transfering a gun across statelines on FedEx?

Can someone tell me the website where you can check on an FFL dealer?

Thanks

It's not uncommon at all. The receiving dealer has to log in his book where/who the firearm came from. The license is just a little extra "proof". Though I'm sure it can easily be faked the dealer has something to show the ATF if they come knocking on his door. I myself ask for a copy of the sellers DL if the firearm is comming from an individual. Just make a copy and black out the social (if on it). Be glad, there are a ton of dealers who won't even accept a firearm unless it comes from another dealer.

Here's the FBI's FFL EZ Check website.

I agree also. Put yourself in the position of the FFL holder. He earns his living this way and has a minefield of regulations and government officials and law enforcement agencies that have no hesitation fining him or revoking his license. A gun shows up at his shop from someone he's never met and never really done any business with - he wants to ensure, as best he can, that he's being responsible.

Look at it this way - if a guy you never met before came running out of a bank with a gun in hand & as he passed said "Here - hold onto this for me" you wouldn't do that even if it were a brand new 1957 vintage Python, right? It's a bit of a stretch of course, but I'm sure the FFL holder feels the same way when he receives a gun with no papers.

My FFL will not transfer gun received from an indiviual without ID. He told me it was law in Texas.

if you are shipping the gun yourself then yes you need to give them a copy of your DL , if you don't want to do that , then find a dealer in your area that will ship the gun for you , the local dealer will put your information in his book and his FFL info will be what goes to the recieving dealer
