I RECENTLY PURCHASED A S&W MODEL 1917 REVOLVER (.45ACP). IT HAS THE NUMBER 17222 ON THE BOTTOM OF THE GRIP AND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. IT HAS THE NUMBER 8357 ON THE FRAME AND CYLINDER ARM. IT HAS THE NUMBER 17090 ON THE CYLINDER FACE. DO I HAVE A MIX-MATCHED GUN?? I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE NUMBERS ON THE GRIP AND BARREL WERE PLACED THERE BY THE U.S. ARMY. I'M NO EXPERT SO ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

You will probably get more information on the S&W Forum on your 1917 . There is a bunch of collectors on that site who are very knowledgeable.
