best inexpensive 308?

out of the inexpensive 308 bolt action rifles,savage model 10,rem 770, mossberg 100, etc which is the best gun for the money? just gonna be used for deer hunting.any help is apprec.thanks

Of the rifles you mention the Savage stands head and shoulders over the other 2 I'd say Mossberg second and forget the Remington 770

Timely thread cause Christmas is just around the corner.
For those of you thatsuggested the Stevens could you please give me some details that make it more desirable over the ATR.
I know for the money both are pretty decent rifles and from my limited readings both shoot groups way beyond their price range.
Any answers greatly appreaciated

I've heard really good things about Howa M1500 as well. I don't own one but if I was going to get a good cheap bolt action rifle I'd get the Howa. You can get a new package with a scope for under $400 if you look around. I didn't see any of his auctions on GB but www.budsgunshop.com would be a good place to check as he seems to have good prices.

i have a Stevens 200 in 308 and love the gun. it is made by savage. basically just a savage 110 with out the accutrigger. but the trigger on the Stevens isnt bad at all. will shoot 1 inch groups at 100 yards with my just laying it over the hood of the truck. lite wait. i cant think of a better gun for the money then the Stevens 200. i bought mine new at gandermoutain for 260.00 but i have seen them on here for under 250.00

The Savage is the best bargin in rifles today, the Stevens is a Savage without the Accutrigger.

Let's see, the Stevens has a better trigger, better fit and finish, better accuracy, better warrentee and is more pleasig to the eye. but other than that they are pretty close.
The Mossberg has the worst trigger on the market today and there is no cure for it.
