remington 870 rifle barrels

I've just bought a 870 special purpose shotgun and would like to get a fully rifled barrel for it.
my question is though, do i need to get a specific kind of rifled barrel for this type of shotgun because its a special purpose?
I have been searching for the answer to this question all over the internet.
please if you know, I would greatly appreaciate it.

OK, I have a Hastings barrel which is wonderful. I put it on a stock 870. As long as you have an 870 I can't see that it would be any problem. You could call Gander Mountain, or Cabelas and I'm sure they would give you a good final answer in minutes!! good luck and welcome to Gunbroker

Any 870 barrel will fit on your shotgun with no problems at all, no matter if it is a SP, or a BDL...
Remington makes a rifled barrel, as does Hastings....

Does your 870 have a 3 inch chamber or 3 1/2 inch chamber? I don't remember if a 3 inch chamber barrel will work on a 3 1/2 in gun.

HERE'S A LINK TO REMINGTON , This should answer your question. I thought the special purpose was different from the regular 870's but I see that is the special field model that will not interchange. Hope this helps.

you all have been very helpfull, thanks for answering my question. tommorow im going to pick out a rifled barrel. I've also heard that those hasting barrels are excellent but looking on cabelas sight and reading the review of the hasting barrel with a muzzel break one consumer said that the plastic of the sabot slug got caught up in the muzzle break. Dont know if he is saying the truth though.
