Hi all...

i'm looking for a new caliber rifle, a small cal. some thing that fits between a rimmy & 5.56, it must shoot flat to 100 yds, be able to silencer it well, as it will be used close to residencial area on a large golf course for bunnys & small vermin(fox ?)& not too much meat damage, a .17 is too light(blade of grass throws it out, bee there, tried it)[:D] & so, some where around 22 magnum/hornet / mmmmmmm ??

what ya think ?? regards M

Sounds like Hornet territory to me; or, if you reload, .222.

.22 K-Hornet is the answer to your question.

Or you could go up to a .218 Bee.

You cannot beat the .222 remington. I love this little round, no recoil, but a high velocity with 55 grain bullets.... usually above 3000 fps. But with this caliber you have to reload, as the ammo is somewhat hard to find and usually kind of pricey.

22 hornet, 219 Bee, or 219 Zipper. Tuff to stay subsonic with the .22 so something like a silenced .357 mag or .357 max would be interesting. See also, 30 Harrett,6mm PPC, 25-20 WCF, 256 Winchester Mag., 7mm BR Mag., 30 M1 carbine, 356 Winchester, 255 Rook Rifle (British perhaps obsolete), 300 Sherwood(never used in the US), 310 Cadet Rifle, 360 No. 5 Rook (good luck finding one of these), 380 long (I'm just being a smart butt at this point). Ok I'll close my latest version of "Cartridges of the World" now.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

Close to residencial area seems to limit your choices. For 100 yards a 22 mag with HP ammo will work fine and should silence well. 22 mag is a good fox round within that range. Line it up 1" high at 50 yards. I assume the high velocity rounds are out due to the neighbors. 22 hornet may be to fast for the area but, if not, may very well be your best fit, especially if you do not reload and will be using factory ammo. Of course a 22LR HP will do most of what you want, will silence well and with a little practice can easily be handled at 100 yards. If you work on a golf course you can probably judge distance well and the drop is not that much.

    Good luck.........Scout

Mond, for what you are doing it would be real hard to beat the .22 hornet. It is very accurate and also very quite, plus it would work wonders on bunnys and vermin.
