given a model 94

I was given a winchester model 94 yesterday. I know its nothing special but I'm looking for some information about it.
Serial number is 3044317.
It has a loose, sloppy trigger. It has about 1/4 inch of play shaking back and forth.
I don't know the first thing about this rifle. Any information or suggestions would be helpfull about if this is normal or how to take apart and fix. Is it worth fixing?
It does shoot great.

You can download a factory manual here http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm but I would suggest you have it checked by a qualified gunsmith before you fire it any more. Your carbine was made in the late 1960's after Winchester lowered their pre-1964 quality standards.

The serial number shows it was made in 1966. As Spider said take it to a good gunsmith and let him check it out. If it is in good condition it would be worth fixing.

When the hammer isn't cocked, it's normal for a mod. 94 trigger to move loosely back and forth.

I agree! Winchester made nothing but crap after 1964, so send all those junkers to me!(sarcasm, it's what's for dinner!) Win. 94's are plain Jane lever guns, always worth $300.
Seriously though, if you've never taken one apart; this might be a good time to start reading up on it!

thanks for the help.....oldgunner, you are right, its only loose when the hammer isn't cocked. It doesn't have a scratch on it.
