I was wondering what the difference was between a remington sportsman 48 and a 11-48?

I just got willed a remington shotgun from my granddad who passed away; after talking with remington, i was informed that I have a model 1900 12 gauge side-by-side shotgun, that was produced in 1902. this gun is as new, never fired. it has a small damaged spot on the butt-end of the stock is all. any idea what something like this would be worth?? i am not a scatter-gun person, any info would help! thanks
