Lee dies crimping .223?

I have loaded several hundred .223 rounds with the Hornaday 55 gr V-Max.

I will use them in an AR-15 and a Ruger bolt gun.

Do I need to crimp them all?

Or just the ones for the AR?

The book to me is inconclusive.

Thanks!

The ones for the AR defineatly. You don't have to crimp the ones for your bolt gun but here are a couple things to think about. Are you loading all the same length or are you loading the bolt gun rounds out to chamber/ mag length? I usually load all of my ammo to the specific chamber in a bolt gun. Sometimes the length of the magazine will not allow you to load all the way out unless you want to single load. I have found that with the crimp my AR loads shoot great in my bolt gun and that there is very little difference in accuracy so I shoot my AR rounds in it quite often. If you are loading to the same length for both rifles I would crimp them all. Your accuracy and consistency will be better in your bolt gun.

I set the bullet depth to just under the max OAl listed in the book per my bullet choice. I was not as concerned with chambering as I was with just making sure they will not move in the AR mag and potential pressure problems associated with crimping- as I read.

I'll make sure they chamber and I will seperate the rounds for the AR vs the bolt gun.

I'll work on loading OAl specific to the Ruger bolt gun. I think I can figure it out with a dummy round.

    Thanks!
