I have my fathers Stevens 22 Short - Long or Long Rifle. Barrel has engraved on it "Visible Loading Repeater, Pat. Apr 30-07. The serial number is W312. I would like any information anyone may have about the history and value of the firearm.[:p]

Stevens No.70 Visible Loading Repeater. Made: 1907-34.
A rather poor design that was modified many times during the production run. There were the 702, 71, 712, 72, 722. All essentially the same as the original No.70. Most designated model design changes were simple barrel type/lenghth, or sight type changes. However internal changes that were not marked took place as well.
Enough rifles have failed and proved difficult enough to repair that many have found their way into histories scrap pile. One reason is the non-marked internal design changes make finding parts that will fit a real crap shoot on a rifle that was difficult to repair and time in the 1st place.
Therefore working examples have begun to aquire collector interest and value. Even poor but complete examples are commonly bringing $150.+ at auction. VG example could easily top $300.
If you've got one that works, I would reccomend viewing as a collector piece and shooting it sparingly.
