Walther Model 1

I am struggeling to find anyone who can provide information on a Walther Model 1, which originally belonged to my grandfather. In 1965 my grandfather passed on and so the gun was inherited by my father. My father passed on in 1996 and the gun was given to me by my mother. The gun has been in my gun safe every since. I had actually forgotten all about it until recently. I have searched many links on the internet to find the history and value of this gun. The best information I can find so far can be read about at this link http://www.whog.org/originals/Walther_Model_1a.htm and although this link explains that this model is the very first production firearm of Walther it goes on to say that all the records prior to 1945 were destroyed by the Soviet army in 1945. I believe from what I have read that this gun is a 4th generation model 1 because the markings on the slide are identical to those mentioned in the link. However, the link states that "Pistols so marked began at serial number 24300 and went up to about 25500" but the serial number on this gun is 37447. If you look at the information in this link it states that the 5th (and last) generation model 1 serial numbers range to slightly above 30,000.
I know I have given alot of information here, but I am still searching for more. This firearm dates back to somewhere between 1913 and 1915. It obviously has great sentimental value to me, but I would believe a gun with such a history, from such a quality name as Walther should carry a handsome price to the right collector.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might consider getting a copy of Dieter Marschall's book on Walther Pistols, as your S.N. is considerably higher then the ones he has listed.
He also posts to one of the on-line Walther forums, you might consider getting in contact with him.
