corrosive 5.56 ammo?

I had an AR15 brought in with what appears to be the results of corrosive primed ammo. I'm not really up on the surplus ammo department but didn't know there was any in 5.56. The rest of the rifle doesn't show any rust damage.

Some of the cheap foreign stuff might be. Does it have the chrome lined bore? If not it probably was shot and not cleaned and attracted moisture.

does not appear to have chrome lined bore so it might be that. He uses what ever ammo is available so probably has shot all types of surplus.

I would say lack of care is the culprit! I have shot just about everythink on the market in .223 and5.56 and have never had an issue with anything being corrosive. I must admit that there are ocassions that I don't get to clean my AR's for a couple of days after a good range session or some coyote bustin' and even my old unlined Colt upper has yet to rust or pit a bore.
