Wondering what grain would be good to shoot out of my DPMS panther model LR 308 ?
Range is 100 to 300 yards.

There are 5 models of the LR308, all with different barrel lengths. But they're all button rifled and have a 1:10" twist rate.
If you're not asking about reloading then you should stick with Federal Gold Medal Match in either the 168 gr. MatchKings and the 175 gr. MatchKings or Black Hills Match in either of their HP loads.
Otherwise, you can reload with:
155 Lapua Scenar
155 Hornady A-MAX
165 Speer SP (practice and plinking)
168 MatchKing
175 gr. MatchKing
I think it's important to use a slightly faster powder if you're going to reload. My choices for any of these bullets is:
IMR-3031
V V N-135
Both of these powders will burn in the barrel before the gas port and provide good velocities without attempting any new records for velocity.
Do a search because there is a ton of reloading data on the internet for the .308 Win.
Best.
Thank you for this information, usually I have to find out the hard way. I am going to be reloading as soon as my new dillon RL650 arrives, but for the mean time I have to pull the trigger.....
Thanks again.

nononsense has some great advice right here! I am a big fan of the 168gr bullet and the 175gr for my AR-10. I have found that I have had the best luck though with Hornady's 168gr Match and I absolutely LOVE Berger's 168gr LTB(Length Tolerant Bullet). The main reason I like the LTB so much is because of the shape, it has its ogive further forward so it can be loaded at recommended lengths but the distance between the ogive and the lands is shorter as if you were "jumping the free bore". I know that you will really enjoy shooting your DPMS with the 168gr and 175gr bullets, and the surplus ammo you will find shoots pretty darn good out of this rifle too. Good Luck and Good Shooting!
