ok so i have this tommy gun that me and my grandpa built...at least thats what he called it. i was around 11 or so when we built it, it doesnt look like your normal tommy gun, it has a plastic body, its short almost like an assault rifle, and it shoots 22 Lr. Now i know i may be asking a lot sense i dont have the rifle with me at this time so i dont have a make or model to tell you, but have any of you ever seen or heard of anything like this?

thank you,
Jon

Why sure! I built 3 of them last week. Sold them to Mafia hitmen for $8000. .22 Tommy guns are the "in" thing w/Mafia hitmen these days. Not so noisey as the old Tommy Guns. Your Grandpa was ahead of his time.

Yeah I build them 4 days a week. They make great stocking stuffers for the holiday. I sell them to SWAT teams all the time. The 22lr makes a great stealthy round.

Seriously- I am pretty sure that "tommy gun" of yours violates a myriad of federal and state laws. It probably was not the wisest measure to put it up on the internet for everyone to see....including all those people that like to enforce the law.

-The gun is not fully automatic is it? If so, then you need a special license to posses it.

If the gun is semi-automatic and the barrel, measured from the bolt face to the muzzle, is 16" long or longer, then generally speaking, I believe the gun is legal. "Legal" can depend on which state you are in, since various stock designs are legal in one state, but not another.

Since I am not an expert on Federal or state gun laws, it is best for you to check both the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (a.k.a ATF or BATF) website and your state's website (drill down to your state's gun laws) to see if your gun is okay. And, for gosh sakes, please don't send them any inquiries!!

Personally, I wouldn't go crazy and bury it in the woods, but neither would I announce to anyone that I had it. Also, as noted earlier, I wouldn't announce on the internet that you have it, either. And, that's good advice for you to follow, too. Go ahead and do some research. It should be fun.

Possibly an Ilarco security carbine? This was made around the Chicago area in the 50's or 70's. These looked loke a Tommy gun with the drum on top (I think this is where BPost 1958 is going here) and a slimmer design. They DO NOT fire 22lr. There was a special round developed by Brass Extrusion Labs in Bensenville Il. that approximated the power of the 22 LR but was shorter, and had a clad bullet. If so, neat gun, but good luck finding ammo. Can't remember if they were select firew or not, but I think they were as a 150 round drum mag takes a while to empty 1 at a time. If it's the Ilarco, you are likely going to have some trouble with federal authorities unless he has had it licensed and taxed.

I was thinking of the top loading 22 machine gun fed by a 180 round drum. it sounds like paper tearing when fired. I ferget the name of the little darling.
