What is the best way to dispose of old gunpowder I have too old cansisters to get rid of

    spread it on your lawn, great fertilizer.

    I gave 2 cans to my local dealer yesterday. He'll sell or give it to blackpowder hunters.

    Age doesn't hurt gunpowder. If it isn't dusty looking, or has a strong smell or is discolored, it's fine.

    Otherwise yes, dump it on your yard, flush it down the toilet, or do what I do- pour it in 1/4 lb. increments in a coffee can and toss a match in. Flame guyser! Make sure you are out in the open if you do this though.....

    Very true. Black powder goes 'poof' all at once- so if you are disposing of old black powder and want to burn it I'd only do an ounce or two at a time, or else use a fuse.

    Unless it is blackpowder! Then you will have more than a flame geyser!

    Either spread it on your lawn or neutrilize it with water or an oil. But just to be on the safe side, contact your local fire dept. They can tell you the best way to get rid of it, some will even do it for you!

    I've always put in on my lawn but I honestly can't tell if if it has been good for it or not.[:D]

    This is some powder that was given to me that is not labeled to be safe instead of trying to guess what it is i was just was going to dispose of it never thought about spreading it out on lawn thanks everybody

    No its a reall good fertilizer...very high in nitrogen
